True Texas Tunes Takes Off – And Keeps on Rockin’ All Summer Long!

We kicked off the True Texas Tunes concert series in true Austin style with the Marcia Ball Boogie Trinity - a powerhouse trio featuring Marcia Ball, Nick Connolly, and Floyd Domino - lighting up the stage at H-E-B South Congress. With the scent of brisket in the air and Texas two-stepping in the aisles, the launch was a joyful celebration of the music that built this city - and the musicians we support through HOME.

This special partnership with H-E-B brings together all the right ingredients: legendary local music, cold drinks, tender brisket, and big-hearted community spirit. Every show in the True Texas Tunes series raises awareness and funds for HOME and the aging Austin musicians who shaped our city’s iconic sound.

We’re thrilled to announce that this party is just getting started!

True Texas Tunes is expanding into a weekly summer series at H-E-B Lake Austin Blvd! Join us every Wednesday in July and August during happy hour for live music, drink specials, and some of the best BBQ in town - all in support of HOME.

We’ll kick things off on Wednesday, July 2 with a sizzling performance by XXX.

Sarah Brown’s Triumphant Return to the Antone’s Stage at the Women of HOME Event

Sarah Brown made a triumphant return to Antone's stage this spring, her first performance since before the pandemic. The beloved cornerstone of Antone's house band in the '80s and '90s had been battling primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare autoimmune disease that required a liver transplant.

The Women of HOME event marked more than just a comeback—it was a celebration of resilience and community support. Welcomed back by HOME Vice Chair Eve Monsees and accompanied by Austin's finest musicians, Sarah's emotional performance demonstrated the power of the city's musical family, which rallied around her during her health crisis.

Beyond her musical legacy, Sarah has served as long-time chair of HOME's Client Services Committee, helping fellow musicians age with dignity. Now, with her own gift of life, she returns to both the stage and her community work with renewed purpose.

HOME Client Spotlight: Miss Lavelle White

With a voice as soulful as it is timeless, Miss Lavelle has been a fixture on stages from Antone’s to C-Boys, sharing the spotlight with legends like Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, and B.B. King. But behind her decades-long career is a story that helped inspire the founding of HOME.

There’s a side of Austin that really cares.
— Miss Lavelle White

In 2013, Lavelle - then in her 80s - found herself without stable housing. Like many aging musicians, she had spent her life pouring everything into her art, with little left for retirement. That’s when a group of her friends and fellow musicians stepped in. They came together to help her secure housing, furnish her apartment, and cover basic expenses. That act of love became the seed that grew into HOME. Miss Lavelle was our very first client.

Today, Miss Lavelle still sings with joy to the delight of those around her. Her spirit and voice remain as radiant as ever.

HOME Board members Marcia Ball and Nancy Coplin - along with an all star lineup of musicians - are preparing for an special birthday celebration—stay tuned for photos from this year’s visit! And thank you to Dave Pedley for capturing these special moments for HOME.

As Lavelle says: “There’s a side of Austin that really cares.”

That’s the spirit of HOME.

A Season of Celebration, Soul, and Support: Event Recap & Gratitude

This spring, HOME was honored to host not one but two unforgettable events filled with music, memories, and mission—and thanks to your support, both nights made a real difference in the lives of the musicians we serve.

Oh, Cher! Mardi Gras “Fais Do-Do” at Donn’s Depot

Our very first Mardi Gras “Fais Do-Do” was one for the books! Donn’s Depot set the perfect stage for a funky, swampy, soul-filled night as Bobby Boudin & the Crystal Blue Persuasion - featuring none other than Kevin Russell of Shinyribs - brought the spirit of Louisiana straight to Austin.

From king cake cocktails to nonstop dancing, our community showed up in style to celebrate the season and support HOME’s mission. Huge thanks to Donn’s Depot, Daren Appelt, and St. Cecilia Soda Co. for sponsoring this lively affair - we can’t wait to make this an annual tradition.

WOMEN of HOME: A Night to Remember

In March, we gathered once again for our annual WOMEN of HOME celebration, raising over $50,000 in support of Austin’s aging music legends. The evening was full of heartfelt moments: from Nancy and Marcia’s joint birthday bash to Sarah Brown’s moving return to the stage, every note carried the soul of Austin’s musical legacy.

We’re grateful to everyone who donated, performed, and joined us for this magical evening.

Meet Our New Advisory Council Members: Lindsay Bailey & Akina Adderly

Lindsay is already leading HOME’s Governance Committee and helping guide us toward even greater impact. Onward!

Akina Adderly is a singer, educator, and all-around creative force. Known for her soulful voice and community leadership, Akina is deeply rooted in Austin’s music and nonprofit scenes.

She brings an artist’s insight, a teacher’s heart, and a bold vision for how HOME can uplift the next generation of aging musicians. We’re honored to have her perspective and passion helping shape our future.
